Dr. William P. Ventura
Professor/Assistant Chair
Dept. of Biological Sciences
Pace University
General Rules - Biology

Lecture notes are summarized or expanded to help the student better understand the concepts presented in this course.

As you go through the chapters in the text pay particular attention to definitions and headings.

Dr. Ventura will ask you to become comfortable with concepts of:
1) Basic information of how the cell works, including chemical terms and cell structure.
2) Overview of plants and how they are classified.
3) Overview of the animal kingdom and basic characteristics of similarities and differences in the Classes.
4) Focus on the human and organ systems.

There is no question that we will cover a lot of material in this course - BUT-  if you attend EVERY lecture and lab and pay attention to headings and definitions and tables your focus will be clear.

Please bring your textbook to each lecture and your lab book to each lab.

You will have three tests in the lecture part of the course plus a final.  Keep the tests and corrected answer sheet as the questions will be used on the cumulative final.

In the lab you will have a practical mid-term and a practical final. That means you must not miss either test as they cannot be made up.

Welcome and enjoy the experience.
