FOOD IDIOSYNCRASIES.

Food idiosyncrasies are defined as an abnormal response to a food substance or additive.  The reactions generally do not involve the immune system and they are often seen in people who are genetically predisposed.

Examples of food idiosyncrasies:

LACTOSE INTOLERANCE - abdominal pain, bloating and diarrhea.

FRUCTOSE CONTAINING FOODS - abdominal pain, vomiting, diarrhea, hypoglycemia (low blood sugar).

CHOLINE AND CARNITINE CONTAINING FOODS - fishy odor of body secretions.

RED WINE - sneezing, headache, diarrhea, itchy skin, shortness of breath.

ASPARAGUS - sulfur smelling urine.

BEETS - red urine.

CHOCOLATE - migrane headaches.

FAVA BEANS - hemolysis (breakage of red blood cells), fatigue, nausea, fever, chills, abdominal pain, and shortness of breath.
