LIFE HISTORY OF Delias hyparete metarete (Painted Jezebel)

Special acknowledgement is given to my good friend and fellow enthusiast, Mr Steven Neo SH for the excellent photography in the following shots of the life history of the Painted Jezebel.

The female Painted Jezebel lays her eggs on the undersides of the leaves of the Loranthus - (Dendropthoe pentandra). Usually more than a dozen eggs are laid together over a patch of the leave of around the size of a 20 cent coin.

The eggs are a creamy yellow and slightly elongated.

1st instar larvae. Immediately upon hatching, the infant caterpillars quickly devour the eggshells and start eating by scraping off the surface of the leaf.
