Rapala
pheretima sequeira was one of the latest of the Rapala species
to be observed in Singapore. It has been bred on Lantana spp.,
and is surprisingly urban in its distribution. THe distinctive characteristic
of this species is the broad cell-end bars in the undersides of both wings,
and the spot in the middle of the forewing cell. The males are a
dusky reddish brown above, whilst females are a dull steely blue.
Like all its related species
in the genus Rapala, this species possesses a pair of white-tipped
string-like tails and has a lobed tornal area on the hindwing. The legs
of the species are black and white banded.
Rapala pheretima sequeira
flies
rapidly and can often be found at flowering trees or in the vicinity of
its host plant Lantana. |
