This
species is one of several Rapalas which can be found in Singapore.
The males of Rapala varuna orseis are indigo blue above and the
undersides are dark brown with a purple wash in side light. The post-discal
bands are broader than the two other species which appear similar to it.
The species possess a white-tipped
thread-like tail, and a tornal lobe on the hindwings.
The butterfly is a rapid flyer
but can often be captured when it stops to rest or to feed at flowering
plants. |
