The Common Faun is a forest denizen and usually lurks close to the ground
in well-shaded areas. When disturbed it springs up from underfoot
but does not fly far. The underside of the butterfly is deep brown
with dark transverse lines and a series of white spots on both wings.
The upperside is orange-brown and unmarked.
The larva is pale green with
short white hairs. It has been successfully bred here in Singapore
on Caryotis mitis (Fishtail Palm).
The Common Faun is locally common
in certain areas within the nature reserves. One can almost always see
it at the new nature boardwalk located at the Lower Peirce Reservoir Nature
Reserve in Singapore. |
