Neptis
harita harita was not recorded in Singapore by the early researchers
and authors. It was observed mainly in the Mandai area in the vicinity
of the Singapore Zoo and Night Safari in the early 90's. Although
rare, it appears rather frequently in the area. Some individuals
have been spotted as far south as Bukit Timah Nature Reserve.
The butterfly glides in the
usual "sailing" fashion of the Neptis species. It is dark
brown above, with a distinctive crescentic postdiscal spot in space 3 of
the forewings. This male, with a slightly deformed left forewing,
was photographed in the Upper Peirce Reservoir area feeding on damp soil
along a footpath.
The life history is unknown,
although the species is likely to depend on Leguminosae as its host
plant. |
