For me, nothing is more interesting than the way by which people are aware of existance. It is my belief that human brains have the capacity to create consciousness from a few pounds of chemicals. However, most people remain blissfully unaware that there is a physical explaination for human awareness. Millions of people remain wed to the older tradition of thought that suggests that there is a non-material, spiritual world where human souls exist. Is this a hopeless dicotomy or is there common ground?
We near a new century that holds the promise of humans moving off Earth and into outerspace, creation of machines with human-like intelligence, development of tools for controlling human genetic programming and human brain states, and for detection of radio signals from other planetary civilizations.
Science Fiction provides a medium for exploring possible futures and placing today's issues into the context of the future. Computer networks now allow people around the world to come together to explore topics of common interest. I want to have some fun using these tools to explore my interest in the human brain. I invite all Web Scholars, Artists, and Seekers to join in creating a new way to explore the future..........
I have my bias for looking at the world. I hope this project can bring together people with a variety of different views. I am particularly interested in not scaring off people who might be willing to defend the idea that "The source of consciousness is transendent to all of our concepts." Although it is entirely at odds to my way thinking, I am intrigued by the idea that consciousness could be rooted in something beyond our powers to think about and name, that consciousness itself could provide an energy or activating principle that is merely focused by crass, material brains towards particular parts of time and space. This project needs people who can write about religions like Wicca and things like magic and animate characters like Anora Longpike.
