Descarte's ideas on separation of mind from body deserves to be criticized, and Damasio does it well.
Just by having a web page that mentions him, I get many requests for the email address of Antonio Damasio. antonio-damasio@uiowa.edu

Hopefully someone will be able to unite Damasio's body-centered brain with the cortex-centered brain of others, like Francis Crick. For me, I have fallen into the habit of speaking of "Emotional Tagging" when refering to the very important role for emotions and feelings as modifiers of memories. Damasio's approach is certainly more detailed than any I have or would care to take.

I wish more people who are interested in artificial intelligence would pay attention to Damasio's ideas on the relationship between body and reason. If machines are going to think like people, they are going to have to be rooted in the equivalent of a human body. Anyone trying to run a Turing test should certainly invite Damasio to help give the test!
