THE DEMON-HAUNTED SAGAN (book review here)

The Law of Origins - Each scientific discovery creates dozens of pseudoscience opportunities.

The Alternate Rule: No matter how well science describes an aspect of the universe, some people will still prefer an alternative description.

Sagan's Dilemma: Magic can not be detected by scientific tests. This is an inherent limitation of science. Science can not encompass magic (by definition).
Magic Corollary: Scientists are just too narrow minded to understand magic. Magic works, but scientists just don't get it.

Special Farengi Rule of Acquisition: The publicity associated with any pseudoscience belief is directly proportional to the profit involved.

Sagan's Worst Nightmare: For every pseudoscience claim debunked,
two more new ones will be made.

The Law of Equal Reaction: The less scientists speak out against a pseudoscience claim, the more people will suspect a cover-up by scientists who could support the claim.
The Rule of Conspiracy: The more scientists speak out against a pseudoscience claim, the more people will suspect a conspiracy to suppress the claim.

Uncle Godel: Science is the best way to understand the universe.
Godelian Magic: There are aspects of the universe that can not be understood by science.

The Sagan (Consolation) Prize: Anything that science discovers was already known long ago by mystics or magicians or folk healers, etc.
Science rediscoveries always take second place.

The Optimist: Any scientific discovery can be used to support an old pseudoscience belief.
The Pessimist: Even established scientific theories will be ignored in preference for a new pseudoscience belief.
