Raku Sea Hold

Raku Sea Hold is situated on a large island in the far east on Pern. It is the farthest Hold away from Seiryuu Weyr to be protected by it. Being so far away its winters consist of usually heavy rains while it’s summers are scorching hot. They are where everyone under the protection of Seiryuu Weyr receives their fire lizard. Raku has the Dolphineer craft, Glass craft, Pottery craft, and Fisher craft. There are other minor crafts in the Hold yet these four are their major crafts, all being roughly the same size.

Master Jonie runs Raku’s Dolphineer craft closely with her partner dolphin Rhoa, the Raku Pod Leader. She has one daughter, Tana, whom she admits to having spoiled in her youth and so being doesn’t hide the fact that she’s disgusted by Tana’s immature behavior and her tendency to bully everyone and anyone except the Lord Holder’s family and her own mother. Aside from the problem of her only daughter, Jonie is a very warm person whom most like and is very trusted by the Lord Technado; hence the reason she’s entrusted with distributing the fire lizards eggs.

The Master of the Glass craft in Raku is a short, heavily muscled, woman by the name of Honana. She is very gifted in the art of glass making, whether it’s for decoration or for functional use itself. Though she is very good in her craft she’s hard to please and only very promising glass makers are accepted by her from the island. She’s stubborn yet does have a soft side for fire lizards and whers though oddly not so much dragons. She believes that the fire lizards and whers aren’t given enough credit and was the one whom impressed the brown watch-wher, Garnin, who now guards the Hold from unwelcome guests.

Master Taerun is the Master of the Potter craft. He’s not really a looker but that doesn’t stop him from bedding with a number of women through out the Hold; it is rumored that he sired Jonie’s daughter, Tana. Taerun is a fun loving Master but can be quite the strict man when it comes to teaching. After he’s taught his students how to do something it is not an oddity for him to sneak throwing bits of clay at his students causing small clay fights. Because of his carefree nature it had taken him a long time to convince the other Potters to give him his Mastery of the craft and then was sent to Raku Sea Hold where he established the current craft hall.

Besun is the Master of Raku’s local Fisher craft. He is very stiff in his manner and is lenient on no one, least of all his own sons and daughters. The Master Fisher is a tough old cove wearing multitudes of scars with pride, including one which practically splits the left side of his face in half. He however does have a small soft spot for Master Dolphineer Jonie possibly because of her working closely with the dolphins who help guide his ships. He is the only Master at this time to own a fire lizard, bronze Cripo.

The Lord of Raku Sea Hold is a jolly man by the name of Technado. He’s usually a very trusting man but ever sense he exiled his previous wife because of her treachery towards a young woman, now rider at Seiryuu, by framing her for a crime she did not commit, he has become cautious towards new comers and those who live on his lands. He however, does a great job on hiding his wariness and usually is a great judge of character. He has a number of children one being from his former wife Lady Naranak. He never remarried after Naranak too devastated that the woman would do such a thing just because the girl had rightfully been better than their son in their classes.

Jilta is the Harper of Raku Sea Hold. She’s a determined Harper late in her third decade. She is an alto tenor when singing though she prefers to play and write music rather than sing it. Depending on the person/situation Jilta’s both easily and somewhat not easily angered. She is a fair person when approached with problems and possibly Lord Technado’s best council when making decisions concerning the Hold. It is rumored by the holdbrats that a possible relationship is sprouting between Lord and Harper.

Ahno is just beginning her fifth decade, all of which have been spent at Raku Sea Hold, and is the Hold’s Headwoman. She’s a caring soul who will not have it if you try to contradict her words, change her words around, or flat out lie. She has many a child in and out of the Hold, the eldest being 30 and the youngest only 15. She’s not the best cook in the world but she does know how to instruct others to do better. She tends to avoid dragons and at time their riders because of one of her children dying shortly after entering their first Threadfall upon their dragon’s back. She does have other children who ride but that doesn’t stop her from keeping her distance from dragons and riders. She only talks to riders when the need arises such as during searches but will immediately distance herself from the dragons. Rumor has it she was pulled out of a the crowd of a hatching when a dragon tried to impress her at the age of five; the dragonet died on the sands and it is thought this may also be a reason why she has not wanted to be near dragons her whole life.

Turasake Hold

Turasake Hold is the second biggest hold under Seiryuu Weyr’s protection. It is nearly two sevendays ride by carivan two the west and slightly south of the Weyr. The Beast craft and Wood craft are big here with many a runnerbeast being produced in the paddocks just outside the main Hold building. Turasake Hold also has a small portion of the Weaver craft in its girth. Turasake is also known for its great food causing some riders to fake searches just to eat a meal at the Hold.

Ronagin is only the second holder of Turasake Hold and is proud of his haritige. Lord Ronagin is a Lord who can take a joke and send one right back. He sometimes finds himself being lead astray by his old childhood desires but is always brought back to Pern by his wife. Only just entering his third decade the young holder takes pleasure in helping out in the hold and badgering his green riding cousin, Nagie, when she comes to visit.

Lady Atona is a friendly woman and won her Lord in her personality more than her looks. She is so to speak Ronagin’s conscience on a number of matters. She seems quiet but is actually assessing each person she comes across. When she does speak it is usually to speaks her mind and she does not beat around the bush about it. Both she and her husband enjoy riding about their Hold to interact with those beholden to them.

Halten is a drudge turned Head Cook. He learned under Nagie before she became the rider of green Nomikoth and has found that his skills are surpassing his mentors. Halten is a kind and sometimes overly worried person. He will be the first to ask if you’re all right if he thinks there is something wrong and will be the first to tell you to attend to your “wounds” before trying to take on other things. Since his “promotion” to Head Cook, Halten has been seen in a different light and has taken on a few lady friends though it is not quiet sure if he has a preference in his new found “friends.”

Master Helxic is head of the Beast craft at Turasake and is strict yet friendly. He has a fondness for breading runnerbeasts and felines. He has been described as a fatherly type of Master and so being knows most every Apprentice and Journeyer in his charge. He is great friends with the Master Beast Crafter of Kutou Hold as well. Helxic has sadly never had children and he’s coming nearer to his fourth decade.

Otinyan is the Master of the Wood craft and is as stiff as the wood she works with. She was born at Ryslen Weyr and was annoyed by her lack of luck impressing at the Weyr. She took out her frustration at not impressing by building chairs and shaving down pieces of wood into figurines. She holds a grudge towards the dragons because of this but is more than willing to let her Apprentices and her Journeyers stand to possibly impress dragons, especially from Seiryuu. Otinyan takes no gruff from her students, she is always right.

Though the Weaver craft is small in Turasake, Vanmoin is very proud to be a Master in his craft. He’s pride sometimes causes conflicts between himself and people he meets. The three major holds under protection of Seiryuu all have tapestries made by him causing him to blush at such a complement. He also is quite skilled in making clothing. Vamoin rarely lets his pride go but during emotional or hard time he does throw it by the way side.

Xumelno is Headwoman of Turasake and very over protective of those who live there. She has a tendency to know what people are thinking even before they think it. She has a liking of listening to everyone’s problems and then reaches her own conclusions; people tend to respect but don’t always agree with them and or her. Her eyes are sharper than most and rarely is there a thing she doesn’t know going on in Turasake.

Kutou Hold

Kutou Hold is nestled in the foot hills bellow Seiryuu on the Eastern side of the Weyr. A number of the people who live in this hold were searched out by dragonriders in the turns before Seiryuu Weyr opened to help with fixing up the prospective Weyr. They have one of the best Miner craft halls based within their walls as well as a smaller portion of the Beast craft, which specializes in breading watch whers. They also house a fairly large wine craft that rivals all others if not surpasses them.

Bigahomla Hold

Bigahomla Hold is considered the “Legendary Hold.” It is a sort of gambler’s paradise that’s very tolerant of all sexual preferences. It is a minor Hold though and Seiryuu Weyr tends not to advertise the Legend to be true. It is however found about half way between Kutou Hold and Turasake Hold. Though its appearance is a paradise to most it is also slightly dangerious in the fact that there are some reports of rapings in the area causing Seiryuu to leave at least one dragon at the Hold to help keep order. However aside from that crime, Bigahomla is a very prosperous Hold which makes its money on crops and betting. It is said that rarely does a Bigahomlan loose when gambling with a Bitran even when the Bitran cheats. Bigahomlans rarely cheat when placing bets unless they are loosing money because the other(s) are cheating.
