Quenneville Coat of Arms

This is a copy of the "Quenneville Crest" found in "Illustrations to the Armorial General V & VI.

This copy of the Quenneville Crest was found in "Dictionnaire et Armorial des noms de Famille de France".

The following is an explanation of the various parts of the crest as found in the "Dictionnaire et Armorial des noms de Famille de France":

The fasce represents the scarf carried at war around the body in the manner of a belt at the waist.

The star or the spur was designating perhaps long ago, a younger, as in England, but that especially a star, a sign of appurtenance celeste, the spur implies the idea of chevalierie, often the stars or spurs play a simple role of garnishings, simple and easy to draw. In principle of gold or of silver.

That is the bird by excellence, but there are also the species of birds : partridge, cranes, heron, etc.

I received both of these crests from my cousin Jean-Guy Quenneville. I was able to locate the "Dictionnaire et Armorial des noms de Famille de France" at the State Library in Melbourne to find out more information, unfortunately I can not locate a copy of the "Illustrations to the Armorial General V & VI, which shows the original crest from 1338. The crest in the "Dictionnaire et Armorial des noms de Famille de France" is the original crest as modified and registered for Nicolas Quenneville in Paris France (date not known).

I hope my efforts on translating from the French will not offend anyone. Its a word by word search in my dictionary to work some of this out.
