Ahh.. yes the units. If you are reading this, u probably don't know the game very well or you're just bored. This page in still underconstruction just like the others.
I prefer to play humans, mainly because I'm human. My friend
Mark likes orcs better, because of the magic. I don't really care what race
I pick. But the humans sound cool.
Here are the units in Warcraft ][:
Peon/Peasant: This is the basic, but the most important unit. It can build, harvest, repair, mine, and now it can attack. If you don't have at least one peasant and one townhall your probably dead.
Grunt/Footman: This is the weakest attacking unit and it's almost worthless if your opponent(s) have Ogres/Knights, If you are poor and you need guys fast u get them.
Axethrower/Archer: These units have a ranged attack, so they're good for defense, but they suck at offense. When upgraded, these are Berserkers/Rangers and they can be upgraded for thing such as Scouting (they can see further), lighter axes (for Berserkers), Marksmanship (for Rangers; they can hit more accurately), and Regeneration for Berserkers (they can heal themselves, but it is very slow). They're excellent for taking out Dragons/Gryphons if they are in groups.
Catapult/Ballista: These slow, powerful weapons are good for taking out towers and other buildings, if they're protected by other units. Catapult's or Ballista's suck when in close range. They suck so much that one peasant can kill the thing. See my Strategies page for more info.
Ogre/Knight: These are the most useful land units, in my opinion. They can be upgraded to Ogre-Mages/Paladins. Then they can cast spells. See my Spells section for more info.
Goblin Sappers/Dwarven Demolition Squads: I love these little things. They rule. They can blow up trees, rocks, buildings and other units including yourself. They are good for taking out towers and farms. They can blow up farms in one hit. U can't use Unholy armour on them or they will blow up.
Dragons/Gryphon Riders: These things really suck like cr*p. They cost so much money and they have only 100 hit points. Only use these things if your enemies don't have guard towers or archers/axethrows.
Goblin Zeppelin/Flying Machine: These are good for two things. One, you use them for scouting and to see what your opponents(s) are doing. They can see subs too. If you are a loser and u don't want to die, u build alot of these and make them run around the screen forever.
Oil Tanker: You use these to build oil platforms and to haul oil, which is necessary for building ships and for some other things. Like peasants/peons in water.
Destroyer: These are best for flyers, especially Dragons/Gryphons. These are like footman/grunts on water.
Juggernaught/Battleship: These are very powerful ships, but they couldn't attack flyers. I always build some Destroyers to escort them. I also use them to attack land units.
Transport: These are for taking your troops across the many seas and lakes. U can fit 6 people in it.
Giant Turtle/Submarine: These could only attack sea units and buildings on the coast (Shipyards, foundries and oil refineries). They are very weak, and one direct hit from a Juggernaught/Battleship could sink one.
Death Knight/Mage: Magic rules. If you suck in hand to hand combat use magic. They also have a magic bar witch shows the mana u have.
Buildings: Well I too lazy to write so i'm going to talk about the orchish buildings with the humans.
Basic Buildings: These buildings are built by clicking the "Build Basic Building" button
Farm: You need these to train units. If you click on them, it'll tell you how much food you have and how much food is used.
Great Hall/Town Hall: This is the place where you train Peons/Peasants. The Peons/Peasants bring lumber here if you don't have a lumber mill and they bring gold here. You can upgrade it twice.
Barracks: This is where you train some of your units.Such as knights, archers, footman, catapults/ballista's
Lumber mill: This is where you can upgrade the archers weapons and skills. If you build this closer to the trees you cut, the Peons/Peasants will come here to put the lumber.
Blacksmith: You can upgrade weapons/armour/catapults here. You also need it to build some advanced structures.
Tower: When you first build these, they're watch towers. They just scout around. Good if you are playing at fog on. They can get upgraded to a Watch tower after u have a lumber mill. And u can also upgrade to cannon tower if you have a blacksmith.
Wall: These could only be build in multiplayer games, and only if the map allows it. They're useful for surrounding towers and if you are playing against more than 3 computers than u should build a wall around your city. The computer doesn't brake walls.
Advanced Structures: These are buildings you could build after you have a lumber mill. You would have more buildings after you upgrade to Fortress/Castle.
Shipyard: This is where you build ships (no, really).
Foundry: This is where you could upgrade your ships' weapons and armour.
Oil refinery: After you build this, your oil tankers would stop taking your oil to your shipyard useless the shipyard is closer.
Goblin Alchemist/Gnomish Inventor: When done building this you could make Giant Turtles/Submarines. You could also make Goblin Zepplins/Flying Machines and Goblin Sappers/Dwarven Demolition Squads here.
Ogre Mound/Stables: When done building this, you could train Ogres/Knights at you Barracks.
Dragon Roost/Gryphon Avairy: You train Dragons/Gryphon Riders here.
Temple of the Damned/Mage Tower: This is where you train Death Knight/Mages and you research spells.
Altar of the Storms/Church: This is where you research
you spells for your Ogre-Mages/Knights. If the enemies kill it after u learn the spells don't build it again.
