"Savior" Heavy Escort
The ship was modeled in Lightwave 5.5
®.
Texture and background images were created
in Adobe Photoshop ®. It is basically a series of segmented boxes and
spheres squashed and stretched with a little beveling here and there.
The blue thruster flames were made by using
a gradient image map and special lighting effects. I have to confess that
the flames were not my creation but are an object and image file combination
that is included in Lightwave's tutorials section.
I haven't gone into a lot of detail
in these renderings, but this being my first project in Lightwave I think
it turned out well. The large cylinders at the rear of the ship control
the thrusters for up and down movement. And now that I think about it,
I didn't provide for lateral movement of the ship! Ok, so it's back to
the drawing board.
.
By the way, the background on this page
is the same background used in the renderings. I've even used this program
to make animation's for the web. These images don't do the actual rendered
object justice because I converted the images to 3 scan JPG's. But you
can get a pretty good idea of what it looks like.
I was absolutely amazed at the possibilities
Lightwave provides. I'd say that there is no end to what you can do with
this program. Next I'll be putting together an AVI animation so that those
of you who are into 3D can see what is possible. There
are three images for each texture or surface of the ship. You need a color
image for the actual coloring of the surface, then you need a grayscale
image for a diffusion map, and last but not least a specular image. I used
the diffusion image as a bump map also to give the surface real like texture.
This bird can "FLY"!
Here is another image of a "Braxian Fighter"
in a scene with a spiral galaxy. All created in Lightwave
