70-59 TCP/IP 4.0
TCP/IP, the building blocks of the Internet. There is a lot of info that you need to know BEFORE you take the test. Time will also be a factor because of the large amount of scenario questions. You better learn the subnet table because so many questions deal with the topics of subnets, the number of hosts per subnet, and subnet masks.
This test has become adaptive. In addition, Microsoft has added "drag-and-drop" items to test your knowledge of the subjects. This test is probably the most straightforward of all the exams I have taken, but you must know your material!
- Subnetting and # of hosts per subnet
- Know purpose of DHCP, WINS, DNS and when each one is needed
- When a DHCP Relay or WINS proxy is needed
- Browsing with LMHOSTS and WINS
- NetBIOS and hostname resolution methods
- Printing with TCP/IP and UNIX clients
- Purpose of the TCP/IP utilities (such as RSH, FTP, nbtstat, etc)
- Purpose and use of the protocols, such as ARP
- Connecting different subnets with multi-homed computers
- Troubleshooting:
- You can ping the remote host but cannot connect using the computer name or hostname
- You cannot ping the remote host but you can connect to other remote hosts in that subnet
- You cannot ping a local host in your subnet
