BROWSERS
Basically, there are two main browsers that most people use to surf the World Wide Web: Netscape and Microsoft Internet Explorer. AOL uses their own browser, but their users have the ability to use the other major browsers instead if they choose. (WebTV users, I'm sorry, but I am clueless as to how your system works. Maybe one of you can share with us.)
Simply put, your browser is the tool to which you navigate the Internet.
You have the ability to store your favorite sites ("Bookmarks" in Netscape; "Favorites" in MIE).
Your browser will also show you where you are currently on the Internet through your "location" field.
You also have many other navigating tools such as "back", "forward", "reload", etc. You probably already know most of these tools since you are already here. Let's move on!
The downfall to the cache and the history areas, is that they get bogged down with too much information if you surf often. Even if you don't surf different sites too often, you should make it a habit of clearing these areas on occasion to enhance your computers functions.
"CACHE" & "HISTORY"
The cache and the history are storage areas that work together to help you load pages faster. These areas hold graphics (cache) and web pages (history) where you have previously visited or allowed to load on your browser. The next time you visit one of the sites listed in your history, you will find that the page loads much faster than it did the first time you were there. (These are my simple way of explaining it. Anyone with a better understanding is welcome to explain it more thoroughly for me.)
COOKIES
I can't even begin to explain these any better than CookieCentral.com, so I will simply refer you to them. If you have any questions after reading their "Cookies", "More Information" and their FAQ's, simply come back here and ask. I am sure someone can help explain. BTW, they have a great, free program there called, "Anonymous Cookie". You can find it under the "Hide Your Cookies" area. It's worth the use.
To clear your cache:
1. Click View
2. Click Internet Options
A new box will pop up.
3. Under the temporary internet files, click delete files.
At this point another box will pop up and ask you if your sure, click OK.
4. In the same box right underneath where you just clicked you will see a box that says History. Click Clear History.
Another box will pop up asking if your sure, click yes.
5. Click Ok at the very bottom of the box and your done.

Also, you can do more housework by clearing your TEMP file. This is in Windows Explorer - C Drive - Windows - Temp. You can delete them all except for the folders.
Mine also has a file called "Temporary Internet Files" right under that. I cleared those too.
If I explained something wrong, someone please correct me.
Another thing that you can do is to go to Windows Explorer - C Drive - Windows - Cookies, and clear your cookies from there. I had a TON of them
when I went there last month that I deleted all of.
Clearing all these files freed up a LOT of disk space for me.

To clear the CACHE
Go down to "Preferences". A new window will open.
On the left side of that window will be a list of options with a "+" or a "-" next to it. Click on the "+" next to "Advanced".
You will now have a "-" next to "Advanced" with "Cache", "Proxies" and "SmartUpdate" following. Click on the "Cache".
Click on the two buttons that say "Clear memory cache" and "Clear disk cache". I do not recommend changing the numbers that indicate the size of your cache folders. I am not smart in that area, so I leave it alone.
Click "OK"
You are now done with clearing your cache.
Again, go to "Edit" at the top of the browser.
Go down to "Preferences" and I new window will open.
Click on the word "Navigator" on the left.
Now on the right, you will see a button about halfway down on the right marked "clear history" - click it.
Click "OK"
Your history folder is now empty.
Go to "Edit" at the top of the browser.
