I have made two models of Luke Skywalker's lightsaber from A New Hope. They are almost identical to the one Luke is seen with in the film. Mine were made from Vaccum Cleaner tubes, instead of how they did it for the original film using a Graflex 3-Cell Camera flash. (click here for picture of the camera flash)
I cut the tube, drilled holes, and made buttons almost exactly like the lightsaber in the film.
Windsheild wipers were used as grips on the lightsaber in A New Hope, so I cut some up and attached it to the saber.
Right now I am currently working on a model of Luke's Lightsaber from Return of the Jedi. It is not completely finished yet. I have all the parts for it. I just have to assemble it now. For the film, Luke's Return of the Jedi Lightsaber was made from a solid piece of aluminum. And it was machine made on a Lathe. I making this lightsaber from existing parts. I am making Luke's lightsaber look almost exactly as it is seen in the film. After I am finished building it, I will put up more detailed images.
