Graphics, Animation and Sound

This is my favorite part!! There are so many things you can do to " personalize " your page. One of the most important things, in my humble opinion...is to start with a high-grade background. So many times I have come across a very " well put together " page...that had the most boring background I had ever seen. This is the first impression you will make..so... make it !! Remember when your Mom used to tell you to always wear your good underwear in case you got in a car accident and the doctors at the hospital had to cut your pants off??...Well,..your background is your underwear...and you are showing it to the world! Remember, you will find many backgrounds that are spectacular in color...but, ummm..if you can't put at least three different colored texts on them; then well,...they are useless. Also, when Mom said to wear your good undies...she meant the ones without the rips and tears in them. So, please pick a background that is seamless. Ok, so you are asking...Where do I find good underwear on the net??...It just so happens that I know...* smile *...Try these places:

  • High quality images and lots of em!

  • More high quality but a smaller collection

  • A more conservative collection

  • Nicely done!!

Ok...So, now you have your background. Time to go shopping for some graphics to make your page stand out from the rest!...

    Animated Gifs

Animated Gif files are all the rage these days. As you can tell from my pages...I like em!! Like anything else..too much of a good thing can be bad. I suggest if you like alot of these on your page...then keep the size of the gif down. Most people will be patient to let several Gifs load if they see that the sizes are within 20k. Larger files...in abundance...is a quick way to have your page become painful to your reader. So, on that note...Let's go grab some gifs!!

  • A vast selection...and easy to navigate

  • Deb did a really nice job with this site!!
  • More Gifs..More Gifs
  • A searchable index to find the exact gif you want!!

    Sound

There are several ways to present sound on your web page. Midi's and Wav files are presently the most often used. My suggestion is this: Use Wav files sparingly. They are large and take time to load. If your page is not text extensive then there is a real good chance that your reader will finish with your page prior to the file being loaded. Midi files work wonderfully as background music for your reader. Several helper applications are available these days. The choice is yours!! I will give you a link to the helper that I use but remember : it is entirely up to you....this is your page..so, make it so!!!

    Wav Files

  • Visit this place often!!
  • WavCentral..need I say more?
  • Nice job, Chris!!

    Midi Files

  • Yes, I know..it's the same place as the wav's..but it has midis. Sheesh!!
  • Check it out!!
  • Way to go Bobbo..not your ordinary midi..

Are we having fun yet?? Ok, so now you need to know how to make this sound stuff work. Right?? It's really simple. Go here...DeZines gives you the code! I recommend also heading toCrescendos' home pad. Once you have these two sites taken care of..you should be "wired for sound."

Well..there it is, so far. Keep checkin back as I will get more in depth in response to your e-mail and questions. Best of luck to you! Take care and be good to each other!!
