This is the fifth tutorial on creating basic text effects with Paint Shop Pro 5. Again like the previous four tutorials you will not need any special filters to create this Gold Effect.
Step #1
- Start by going to the Menu Bar or Tool Bar and selecting a New Image

- Select the following settings:
- Width = 375
- Height = 75
- Resolution = 72
- Background Color = White
- Image Type = 16.7 Million Colors (24 Bit)
Step #2
- Start by opening the Paint Palette and make your Foreground Color Light Gray. You can use the light gray in the Basic Colors. Located just above the white in the lower right.
- Now for the text. From the Tool Palette select the Text Tool
- Placing the cursor in the center of the active Image Box and click the mouse button. This will open the Text Dialog Box.
- Select the text of your choice be sure that Antialias, Floating and Center are checked. Type in some text and select OK. Do not deselect the text.
- You should now have an Image somewhat like that below:
Step #3
- From the Menu Bar go to Selection, Modify, Feather.
- Set the Feather Selection Box at three (3), select OK. The dancing lines should now be moved out a small amount from the text.
Step #4
- From the Paint Palette change the Foreground Color from Light Gray to White.
- Now we want to apply one coat of Hot Wax. Again from the Menu Bar select Image, Other, HotWax.
- The Image appears a little fuzzy so we need to sharpen it just a little. Select Image,Sharpen, Sharpen More.
Step #5
- Now to get some color on the text. Select Colors, Adjust, Red/Green/Blue from the Menu Bar.
- From the Red/Green/Blue Dialog box use the following settings:
- Red = 100
- Green = 75
- Blue = 0
- You should now have a text with a gold effect like the one below. But you are not done yet.
Step #5
- For the final touches select Image, Other, Emboss
- The Gold should now appear somewhat like a very dull gold.
- Back to the Menu Bar select Colors, Colorize set the Hue at 35 and the Saturation at 130.
- You should now have a nice looking Gold Text. You can now deselect it and save it to your graphics directory or still go one more step and add a dropped shadow like the one shown below.
