Pinch, Pinch

by Russ_UK (intro by Lady Xeen)

One of the rudest things I see on CU is when someone comes onto a ref and begins sending all the ladies private messages asking for a DC. Should I politely say no? or slam the offender? I favor slamming because it reminds me of bad habits people have in person. In this case, I used the analogy of a stranger pinching my butt. My writing skills are weak at best, but fortunately I have friends to talk this over with. I think Russ_UK expressed my feelings well when he wrote this:
I started to try and look at your "butt pinching" analogy.. And ended up getting no-where fast.. But here are the thoughts anyway.

Firstly I agree that the analogy is quite good. However when was the last time you had your butt pinched in public by someone you had never met? That is the difference. I am sure that many "decent" people myself included, have the occasional thought, "Hmm - wonder what would happen if I pinched her butt".. or something similar. However - that STAYS as a passing thought and is not put into practice or there would be a lot of slapped faces in the world!. On a ref though... it seems to be the opposite - "let's pinch first and think of the consequences later...."

This thought led me on to thinking about are there any circumstances where "butt pinching " IS acceptable.. And after my initial answer of NO I then thought, hey hang on maybe there is one situation where a relative stranger could get away with that.. That situation could be in a party situation where people are in a flirting mood. Had a few beers, and are engaging in silly semi drunken "this is going to go nowhere.. but its fun" party behaviour. Now if this IS the case then maybe it explains why the "butt pinching" is so common on the refs. As a lot of people seem to treat CU as a permanent semi-drunken party!..

This thought takes me back to another point - that of "judging the mood".. Even in that party situation, there are those women whose butt you would never even THINK of pinching - those who are there to relax, have a drink, have a chat, but sit in a corner when the dancing begins.. On a ref it seems to be assumed that all women are there to join in the dancing - and risk having their butt pinched in the conga <G>..

So here we are back at the beginning again sort of.. back to the place where I ask "so why do they do it!"...
