The Triumphant Entry: Type of the 2nd Coming
Mark 11:1
1 ķAnd when they came nigh to Jerusalem,{1} unto Bethphage{2} and Bethany{3} , at the mount of Olives, he sendeth forth two {4} of his disciples,
2 And saith unto them, Go your way into the village over against you: and as soon as ye be entered into it, ye shall find a colt tied {5} , whereon never man sat{6} ; loose him, and bring [him].
3 And if any man say unto you, Why do ye this? {7} say ye that the Lord hath need of him{8} ; and straightway he will send him hither.
4 And they went their way, and found the colt tied by the door without in a place where two ways met {9} ; and they loose him.
5 And certain of them that stood there said unto them, What do ye, loosing the colt?
6 And they said unto them even as Jesus had commanded{10} : and they let them go.
7 And they brought the colt to Jesus, and cast their garments on him; and he sat upon him.
8 And many spread their garments in the way {11} : and others cut down branches off the trees,{12} and strawed [them] in the way. {13}
9 And they that went before {14} , and they that followed {15} , cried, saying, Hosanna; Blessed [is] he that cometh in the name of the Lord:{16}
10 Blessed [be] the kingdom of our father David {17} , that cometh in the name of the Lord {18} : Hosanna in the highest. {19}
This story is a type of the 2nd Coming of Christ. Notice that the colt is tied in an place where two ways meet because Jesus will make this Triumphant Entry not once but twice. The spreading of garments represents our works and our inner selves being laid bare by the glory of the Lord at his return. Straw and branches represent dead and carnal works that will be consumed by fire at the 2nd Coming.
