The Triumphant Entry: Type of the 2nd Coming
Matthew 21:1-10
Matthew 2:1 ķAnd when they drew nigh unto Jerusalem{1} , and were come to Bethphage{2} , unto the mount of Olives, then sent Jesus two disciples{3} ,
2 Saying unto them, Go into the village over against you, and straightway ye shall find an ass tied{4} , and a colt{5} with her: loose [them], and bring [them]unto me.
3 And if any [man] say ought unto you, ye shall say, The Lord hath need of them; and straightway he will send them.
4 All this was done, that it might be fulfilled{6} which was spoken by the prophet{7} , saying,
5 Tell ye the daughter of Sion{8} , Behold{9} , thy King cometh unto thee, meek{10} , and sitting upon an ass, and a colt the foal of an ass {11} .
6 And the disciples went, and did as Jesus commanded them{12} ,
7 And brought the ass, and the colt, and put on them their clothes, and they set [him] thereon{13} .
8 And a very great multitude{14} spread their garments in the way; others cut down branches from the trees, and strawed [them] in the way.{15}
9 And the multitudes that went before{16} , and that followed{17} , cried, saying, Hosanna to the Son of David{18} : Blessed [is] he that cometh in the name of the Lord; Hosanna in the highest {19} .
10 And when he was come into Jerusalem, all the city was moved{20} , saying, Who is this{21} ?
When you understand the typology, this entire story reveals a type of the 2nd Coming of Christ!
Jesus comes the first time meek. The second time in power and judgement.
Jesus comes the first time on a borrowed young colt. Jesus comes the 2nd time on his own white horse.
When Jesus came the first time, many did not know who He was. When He comes the 2nd time every eye will see him and know who He is!
First the people cried "Hosanna to the Son of David". At the 2nd Coming, it will be "Hosanna in the Highest"

Glimpses of the Resurrection
Interpretation:
Jerusalem means dual peace shall be taught or lay (set) ye double peace. When will Jerusalem have real peace? When the Prince of Peace returns at the 2nd Coming!
Interpretation:
Bethphage means green fig house
Interpretation:
Notice two disciples were sent, not one. This is antitypical. One is the type. Two is the antitype
Interpretation:
The ass is tied, restrained, held back. Anything that is restrained is the type. Anything loosed is the antitype.
Interpretation:
A colt is a young horse. This is the type. When Jesus returns on the Day of the Lord, he will be on a white horse, not a young colt. Anything young is the type. "When I was a child I spoke as a child"
Anything old or mature is the antitype. "When I became a man I put away childish things."
Interpretation:
Something fulfilled (filled full) is the antitype. Empty is the type. The word "All" is also antitypical as opposed to
one which is the type.
Interpretation:
The words of the prophets speak not once but twice.
Interpretation:
Women in the Bible represent churches. The daughter of Sion is a type of the church. Daughter implies that there is an older mother.
Thus daughter is the type. Mother the antitype. Sion means a parched place. When Jesus returns at the 2nd Coming, the purifying fire of his glory will consume the earth with fire.
Interpretation:
This is the secret of God (that God does not speak once but twice) acted out through the body temple. When you behold (lo) someone you look with your right eye and your left eye. Right is the type. Left is the antitype
Interpretation:
Jesus first comes in meekness. This is the type. When Jesus comes on the Day of the Lord, he will come in judgement, not in meekness.
Interpretation:
Notice there is a ass and a colt, this tell us that this is pointing to an antitypical event. One is the type. Two the antitype.
Interpretation:
God speaks not once but twice. The first time Jesus gives a command to get a borrowed colt. The second time Jesus will command his heavenly army from heaven to descend to earth.
Interpretation:
The first time, they set Jesus on the colt. The second time he mounts his own white horse
Interpretation:
A very great multitude is antitypical. Will there be a great multitude on the day of the Lord?
Interpretation:
Notice the elements on the ground: straw, garments and clothes. Anything on the ground is antitypical. These represent our works which will be judged by fire on the Day of the Lord: Some as wood, hay and stubble? The garments on the ground represent how we will be laid bare before the Lord.
Interpretation:
Anything before is the type because it came first. Anything after is the antitype.
Interpretation:
Anything before is the type because it came first. Anything after is the antitype.
Interpretation:
They say "Hosanna to the Son of David" first. This is the type.
Interpretation:
They say "Hosanna in the Hightest" second. When will our Saviour be in the highest? When he returns on the Day of the Lord!
Interpretation:
Notice all Jerusalem was moved. This is antitypical. Will all Jerusalem be moved on the Day of the Lord?
Interpretation:
Many did not know who Jesus was. It was not revealed to them. This is the type because his identity is hidden. When Jesus returns on the Day of the Lord, everyone will know and see him!
