Jesus curses the fig tree (Type of the 2nd Coming)

Matthew 21:18 - 22

18 Now in the morning as he returned into the city, he hungered {1} .

19  And when he saw a fig tree {2} in the way, he came to it, and found nothing thereon, but leaves only{3} , and said unto it, Let no fruit grow on thee henceforward for ever{4} . And presently the fig tree withered away.{5}

20  And when the disciples saw it, they marvelled {6} , saying, How soon is the fig tree withered away! {7}

21  Jesus answered and said unto them, Verily I say unto you, If ye have faith, and doubt not, ye shall not only do this which is done to the fig tree , but also if ye shall say unto this mountain , Be thou removed, and be thou cast into the sea ; it shall be done .

22  And all things , whatsoever ye shall ask in prayer, believing, ye shall receive.

This entire story is a type of the 2nd Coming. When Jesus returns He will be looking for our fruit. He will reward us "according to what we have done", that is, according to our fruit. Jesus curses the fig tree because it has no fruit. In the same way the wicked will be cursed and destroyed at his 2nd Coming because they have bore no fruit and thus have no reward. Those who receive rewards in Revelations are the ones who overcome. We must overcome by the blood of the Lamb and the words of our testimony. This is why Jesus focuses on faith in verses 21 and 22. Without mountain moving faith we will not make it through the Last Days. Without mountain moving faith we will be in danger of falling away and losing our reward.

Interpretation:

Just as Jesus hungered for figs, so He will be hungering for fruit at the 2nd Coming. As the scripture says, "Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be filled". This will occur on Resurrection Day! Jesus hungering for fruit is the type. Jesus is acting out his 2nd Coming when he will come and reward us for our fruit "according to what we have done."

Interpretation:

The Fig Tree represents our fruit on Resurrection Day.
For more on the Fig Tree read this:
The Fig Tree (Proverbs 27:18 )

Interpretation:

The fig leaves represent the covering of sin. When Adam and Eve sinned, they used fig leaves to cover themselves.

Interpretation:

To those who have produced fruit on Resurrection Day, more will be given. This is our reward according to what we have done. To those who have not, even what they have will be taken from them.

Interpretation:

The wicked are destroyed at the 2nd Coming of Christ. This is why Jesus curses the fig tree.

Interpretation:

The Greek word for marvel means to wonder. When you wonder about something you do not have it completely understood. Thus, it is the type.

Interpretation:

This is the type of the immediate destruction of the wicked at his 2nd Coming.
