Jesus Baptism: Type of the 2nd Coming

Mat 3:13-17

Matthew 3:13  ¶Then cometh Jesus from Galilee{1} to Jordan{2} unto John, to be baptized of him .

14  But John forbad him, saying, I have need to be baptized of thee, and comest thou to me?

15  And Jesus answering said unto him, Suffer it to be so{3} now : for thus it becometh us to fulfil all righteousness{4} . Then he suffered him.{5}

16  And Jesus, when he was baptized{6} , went up straightway out of the water{7} : and, lo , the heavens were opened{8} unto him, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove{9} , and lighting upon him:

17  And lo a voice from heaven , saying, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased{10} .

These verses are a type of the 2nd Coming of Christ. Jesus' baptism in water is the type. The baptism of fire that He will bring at his 2nd Coming is the Antitype. Through his baptism, He is actually acting out the Resurrection at the 2nd Coming! Once more, heaven will open and a voice from heaven will sound "These are my beloved sons, in them I am well pleased" and then we shall received glorified bodies "according to what we have done". This typology is also perfectly played out in the Old Testament. When God destroyed the earth the first time it was by water. It is a type as the earth was not really destroyed, just covered with water. When God destroys the earth the 2nd time it will be by fire and a new heaven and a new earth will be created. See 2nd Peter Chapter 3..

Interpretation:

Galilee means circuit

Interpretation:

Jordam means the descender. Who shall descend at the 2nd Coming of Christ?

Interpretation:

Here Jesus is asking permission to be baptized by John, who is reluctant to do so. This is the type

Interpretation:

In order for righteousness to be "filled full" (antitypically), John MUST baptize Jesus. Here Jesus is showing us that the type must always precede the antitype.

Interpretation:

The type (baptism of water) must be fulfilled before the antitype (baptism of fire at the 2nd Coming) can occur

Interpretation:

The baptism of water is the type. The heavens were opened after Jesus' baptism by water. At the 2nd Coming,
the heavens will also be opened and we will be baptised by fire (the antitype).

Interpretation:

Jesus being baptized in water is the type. When he came out of the water onto the land this shows the transition from the type to the antitype. We learn this typology from Genesis 1 where God created the water first and then the land.
The antitypical fulfillment of this passage is us being baptized by fire and taken up into glory at the 2nd Coming

Interpretation:

When something is closed it is the type. When something is open it is the antitype.

Interpretation:

Dove's are gentle. This is the type. At the 2nd Coming Jesus will be coming in power, glory and judgement.

Interpretation:

In the type, the voice from heaven speaks words of comfort about Jesus. In the antitype, the voice from heaven (the Lord) will give a shout and we shall be glorified. See 1 Thes 4:16
