During my many years of travel and myrid adventures I have had loves and lovers. But there is a particular love which has captivated me. I was riding through the provence of Valencia during the spring of 1696. As it was a hot summer's day and I was particularly thirsty, I stopped at small glen which had shade trees and a fresh water spring. As I rested, I spied a rider approaching. Always cautious, I hid my horse and self behind a thicket.
The rider was a most lovely creature. Dressed in splendid fashion. She dismounted and knelt to drink. Being the brash rogue that I am, I knew I had to meet her. I slipped up on her. She spied my reflection as I approached, but my years of training made me nimble and I darted around behind her before she could see me. What a lovely woman she was. Tall and commanding. Yet her features soft and inviting. "Ahem"...She turned with such a start she stumbled backwards nearly falling into the spring. I quickly grasp her waving hand and steadied her.
"My apologies mylady. *chuckle* I did not mean to frighten you."
Catching herself and regaining composure, she drew herself up regally and demanded, "Who are you and what are you doing on my lands?!?"
Such fire. Yet, looking into her eyes I found warmth and kindness.
"My name is Diego Tallero." I said with a sweeping bow. "Swordmaster, warrior, minstrel, lover, and all around nice guy."
"A bit over stated aren't you? What makes you boast so?", She scoffed.
"I have an eye for beauty and a wit for intellect. I see you, my dear?....... "
"Contessa Sabrina de Valencia! "
"Contessa Sabrina possess both."
She was not easily impressed with my flashy introduction I fear. I found some flowers near at hand and offered them to her. She took it graciously with a pleased smile. She caught herself.
"Now if you are quite through scaring me and boasting of yourself...." She walked to her horse. I assisted her in remount and ask if I might have the favor of meeting with her again. This was met with some small indignation. "Purhaps".
A purhaps is not a yes. But, it's not a no either. I had to win this creature of grace and beauty. And mind you, I'm not known for giving up easily. For the next year I set about making the region my home...... and gaining the favor of the Contessa. By teaching sword play and visiting a local spa and tavern singing songs and telling tales, I earned a small existence. As time went by I met my beautiful Contessa by the spring many many times. We talked and shared our feelings, thouhghts. My affection for her grew. I believe her's for me was growing too.
Finally, I had the courage to ask my dear sweet Contessa if she would be my lady. I was the happiest man alive when she accepted. Now she is my consort, my confidant, my love. I am the luckiest warrior to have one such as her. I can never tell her enough, how much she means to me. She is my lady and my love!
The Contessa and I had fallen deeply in love with each other. Her uncle, the duke, was not very impressed with me I'm afraid. *sigh* He made it very difficult for us to be together. But as always, love finds solutions to all problems. One rainy afternoon, after months of planning, my love and I, in the company of her attendant Alicia Muneco de Peluche, eloped to be wed by a priest who was indebted to me for a service rendered several years prior. Though the weather was rainy at times, our spirits were never damped. We were swept up in our love.
Our elopement caused much talked at the Banera de Calor, the local tavern and spa to which we were both regular vistors. Not to mention her uncle's displeasure that we had taken our affections to the extreme. But what was he to do? Try as he might, he could not separate the roguish Blade from the beautious Sabrina.
Now, as an immortal, I have been able to gather a modest amount financial stability. After our elopement, I took her to a small estate which we could call home. I have not always been a wanderer. At one time, I had been titled the Comte de la Farre and had been given a small estate in France. I had left this estate thirty years before meeting the Contessa.
*sigh*...I had fallen for a woman who was vain and selfcentered. She drove me to leaving the estate for a life of adventure. This wasn't a total loss. For I met several excellent companions in the service of the King. Where we shared many adventures and fought many fights. Ah...but those are tales for another time..... As Athos, I lived a simple life and stayed away from the estate. Now....I, Diego Tallero, gladly return with my lovely bride to make it a home.
As fate would have it, we were blessed with another happiness.....a child. Evidently the elopement and honeymoon were highly successful...*coy smile* We awaited the birth of our child with much anticipation................................................................
