An STF About Nothing
9/8/97

I’ve started taking a comparative religions course in school. Started is a good adjective, because where else would you start but the beginning. So we did start at the beginning. We studied the beginning of CREATION.

As every monotheistic religion states, in the beginning, there was nothing. This is the concept my class couldn’t quite understand.

"What was there before God?"

"Apparently, nothing," my teacher explained patiently

"Oh, so there was just this big empty space?"

"No, space is something, there was nothing."

Another atheist student piped up. "I believe in the Big Bang, and there was something before that, a big ball of mass."

"Ah, yes, but what did the mass expand into?" My teacher asked.

"Uh, empty space?"

"No, there was nothing."

You think my class would have an easier time with this, considering if anyone asked them what they did at school, they’d quickly reply: Nothing.

The Past Stranger Than Fictions

Why Not? I'm nice, really!
