i do admit that i have a fondness for most rebels, but for me the beats are more than just some people who didn't like society. i really love what they had to say, i like their message i like their way of life - i like the beats.
one of the things that i think is really cool about the beats is that they were really intellectual, they had reasons for what they did and they wrote some really really amazing stuff.
i like the hippies too, but the thing that makes me really admire the beats is the fact that they didn't go around preaching their way of life - they just lived the way they wanted to, and let other people do the same.
finally, i also like the whole feeling of beat - the idea of the holiness of the downtrodden, the serene pleasure in life - it speaks to me.
