CHAPTER 13
"We had fun this afternoon. So, we'll meet you tonight at the restaurant?" Brian asked.
"Of course!" Lauren said.
Brian smiled. "Good bye, then."
"Bye you guys. See you tonight." Nick said.
As soon as the girls left, Brian closed the door and turned back to Nick. "What the hell is wrong with you?"
"What?"
"Oh, come on. When Lauren beat you, I'm sure you would've killed her if there hadn't been witnesses in the room! I know you're a bad loser, but Nick... why do you hate her that much? She didn't do anything wrong!"
"I don't know, Ok!" He snapped. "I don't know why. She's so... She's..."
"She's very nice. You were mean to her from the beginning, because you thought she would be an obsessed fan, that she'd be talking about our work all day, about our music. But she didn't, she acted towards us as a friend. You've misjudged her, and you hate to admit it when you're wrong!"
Nick looked at him angrily. Why was he defending her? Wasn't he supposed to be on his side? "She doesn't even like me. I can tell. So why would I bother liking her?"
"She doesn't like you because you've been so cold to her. You didn't talk to her, and I've seen the way you reacted in the limo when she accidentally touched you. You backed away faster than if she was contagious. She's a normal human being, Nick. And try to remember sometime, SO ARE YOU!"
Nick was in shock when Brian left slamming the door. Brian had yelled at him. He couldn't believe it. He sat on his bed and stared at the television. The Nintendo was still on, and traces of Lauren's victory were still on the screen. He got up and turned it off.
Brian was right. He had had no reason to act that way. And from what he had seen earlier, she was nice to everyone... everyone but him. Since she had realized that he avoided her. But how could he admit that he had been wrong? He hated having to admit he was wrong, having to apologize. Especially to her. She'd probably laugh at him if he did so...
And what did Brian mean when he said Nick was human too? Of course he was human, what a stupid thing to say! Unless... No. Could he have been acting a bit snobbish lately? He tried to think about the previous months. He didn't think he was acting any different than before. And beside, the guys always said that they'd keep each other grounded. That they'd warn someone if he was becoming big headed. Were Brian words a warning?
No. They couldn't be.
