Backstreet Secrets

CHAPTER 14

"It's right over there!" Lauren said, pulling Nick out of a cavity in the cliff. As they got farther and farther from the beach house, the cliff had become higher and higher.

"Hey, that hole's deep, It bet there's a cave down there."

"Don't go in Nick, it's really dangerous."

"Don't worry, I know." He said getting out. "Someone got killed in a place like that in my town."

"The waterfall's right around the corner, let's go. The sun's about to get up."

They both ran to the corner and as they turned Nick stopped dead on his tracks. "Wow, that's... Breathtaking."

The waterfall was about 15 meters high. It wasn't a big waterfall. But around it were trees and flowers of all kinds that gave it an heavenly look.

"I love this place already." Nick said.

Lauren smiled. "Wait till you see it in daylight." She grabbed his hand and dragged him near the waterfall. "Leave your shoes here." She said, pointing to a rock. "We'll have to walk in the water a bit to get up."

"Up?"

"We'll watch the sunrise from the top of the waterfall. There's a place to climb over there." She indicated the cliff near the waterfall. "It's almost like staircase built in the rocks. You can't see it from here but once you're close it becomes obvious. Don't look at me like that, it's perfectly safe."

They climbed up and found and old tree stump to sit on. Lauren sat on the edge of the stump and Nick sat behind her. They looked at the sun as it got higher in the sky, reflecting on the sea.

"I'm glad you poured water on me this morning. It was worth it."

He put his arms around her and she rested her head on his chest. "Did you really mean it yesterday when you said we'd be able to sing professionally, Cindy and I?"

"Yes I did. You're very talented. Why? Are you interested in it?"

"A bit, but I'm scared of it as much, if not more."

"I understand it's scary as hell, but you've been around us long enough to realize it has a bunch of positive sides."

"What I've seen of it recently is you getting sick, losing your voice and being exhausted to the point where you were about to have a breakdown."

"I know you'd throw that back in my face."

"No, I'm throwing it in MY face. I don't even want to live that. Schedules are too hard."

"Listen, Laurie," he said softly. "I've seen the way you work at the magazine. Deadlines, articles, the pressure for the fans - our fans, but still, fans - all that stuff can easily be compared to what we do. I'm telling you, if that's the only thing that makes you refuse to get in the business, you have to get in anyway. You'll overcome this. I promise. Beside, the guys and me will always be by your side whatever you do."

"I'll think about it... Talk to Cindy."

"You'll see, you'll love it, believe me."
