Backstreet Secrets

CHAPTER 11

Nick finally managed to get Lauren on the boat and pulled himself out. The shark hit the boat one more time, but they were laying down, so they didn't fall back in the water. Nick pulled Lauren away from the edge and sat her down on a seat. He tried to wake her up, shaking her shoulders, slapping her softly on the cheeks and talking to her. While doing that, he frantically looked at her body trying to find where the shark had bit her.

The only wound she had was on her forehead, and that one wasn't a shark bite. A small trail of blood was falling from the wound. Nick went to wipe it off, but as he lifted his left arm, a sharp pain ran through it. He looked at it and felt sick. It was his arm that the shark had bitten. The cut was deep and went from the middle of his forearm, on his elbow and almost all the way up to his shoulder. Blood was dripping on the floor.

He sat next to Lauren and checked to see if she was breathing. Luckily she was. She had spent less than a minute under water, though it seemed like an eternity to Nick. He was worried because he couldn't wake her up, but at least she was alive. He, on the other hand, was losing a considerable amount of blood.

He picked the towel he was laying on earlier, and wrapped his arm in it. It was kind of big, but it was better than nothing. He just needed to find something to hold the towel there. He knew there was an emergency kit on the boat, but where? He went in the cabin and started to look for it, but after a few minutes he realized his legs where getting weaker. He was losing too much blood.

He forgot about the emergency kit and simply held his arm steady. He wanted to go back to check on Lauren, but instead he decided to go to the front of the boat and try to get back home. He knew if he kept losing blood like that he'd faint soon. If only Lauren could wake up, she'd be able to help him. But she had knocked her head good. Maybe she had a concussion.

Nick started the motor and the boat went forward. It moved for about two feet, then stopped. The oil and gas were almost full, he checked them before leaving the house. Then why wasn't the boat moving? The motor was running.

The anchor! Lauren had fallen in the water while she was trying to get it up. It was still in the water. And it was all the way to the back. He used all the strength he still had and got up. He was felling dizzy and could not even walk straight. After only a few steps, he had no more strength. He felt down on the floor and blacked out.
