Backstreet Secrets

FAQ

What is the website about?
It's a website with Backstreet Boys fanfic on it. Nothing else. Nope, no pictures, sounds, or news. Ok, yeah. Pictures and sounds. But not Backstreet sounds! I'll put some sounds in the "Songs" section soon... Anyways, you'll see...

What the heck is a fanfic?
Fanfic stands for Fan Fiction. It's a story written by a fan. There are fanfics for about anything! TV shows, films, actors, singers... Name it, I'm sure you can manage to find it on the web. I've even seen video games Fanfic!

Why do you like fanfic?
I know, some stories are corny. There is a passionate kiss in the third paragraph. Or the lucky girl moves in next door to one of the BSB. (If fanfics were true Nick would have at least 25 neighbors - all girls). Or, in most cases, they've been best friends since childhood, but something changes... But anyways, I like it. And if you're here, you probably do too. So why'd ask anyways?

I dunno... I'm just here to ask questions.
Then ask away my friend.

Why do you call each story 'episodes'?
Imagine my fanfic as a TV show. Each story is an episode, each chapter is a scene (I almost wrote my story in script-like writting, but I figured I'd pass on more emotion by traditional writing). There is even a soundtrack, so imagine the 'theme' song would be on the opening credit, and each song from a particular episode would be played over the ending credit. Unfortunately this isn't really TV, so you won't get an episode each week.

How long will it take you to write an episode?
It depends on many things: 1- How inspired I am. 2- How long the episode is. Some are really short but some are long. For the long ones, I'll be nice and post a small preview on the website so you won't go nuts. 3- How much time I've got left to do fanfic, because no, this isn't my top priority. I admit I do love to write fanfic, but I got to go to school and I DO have a life.

Why don't you put out a chapter a day?
I know there's often a month between the time that I put one episode and the time I put the next one. Sorry about that. But I don't want to give you a new chapter everyday like some fanfic authors do. I realize it would mean less waiting, but when I write a story, I tend to go back and re-write the first chapters once the story is over, to give it more sense. So I can't use that one-chapter-at-a-time thing.

But it takes so long for you to add a new story that I forget what the previous ones were about!
That's why I decided to put a synopsis for you. If you want a quick recap of what happened in the story, you read it. It only takes a few minutes and you'll know everything you need to know.

Is this the only reason you put a synosis?
No. Right now it's not obvious why, but let's say someone finds this site when there'll be 20 stories already posted. Some people won't want to read all these stories. The synopsis is there for readers who don't want to read all the stories, only the one that interest them.

What's the "time" section?
It's a place where you can see the date where each event happened. Fictionnally happened, that is. Some stories have a few months between them, but other only have a couple of days.

Why a soundtrack? This is fictional stuff!
I know, but I found songs that represented some of the stories so well that it almost seems that they were written especially for "Backstreet Secrets". By reading the lyrics, maybe you'll have an idea of what's coming up on this website. Also, if I'm able to get sounds of these songs for you to listen after reading the story, you'll see that some of them fit with the story so well that they'll bright tears to your eyes.

Can I email you with my comments?
Of course! Positive comment or critism, as long as it's not insults, are welcomed. Getting mail even pushes me to write the next story faster (that's not a joke, it really does - I work better under pressure). Also, please sign the guestbook. It's empty!!!

Why calling your fanfic Backstreet Secrets?
Keep reading you'll find out in an upcoming episode.

How many stories will there be?
Can't you read the episode list? 30.

Are you kidding me? You'll write 30 stories?
Awww... Well, I'll try. I just hope I won't get bored to death with fanfic after 15 episodes. Beside, it's not really 30 different stories. They all include the same characters. They're like sequels, if you will.

Have you already planned everything that will happen in each episode?
Mostly, yes.

You have a overactive imagination.
I know. But to me that's a compliment.

Which story should I read first?
You should read them in order. Number 1 (The Meeting), number 2 (Labyrinth Of Fears), number 3 (Birth Of A Band), etc. If you don't read them in this order, you'll miss some important info. If you don't feel like reading them all, the synopsis is for you.

How comes I can only read the first stories?
The links to the other stories aren't there because the other stories aren't written yet.

How comes the titles are there if the stories aren't written?
Like I said, most of the storyline is already planned. Even though I haven't actually written it, I know what's going to happen in each episode... I only have to figure out details, and that pretty much happens naturally when I get to write them.

Where did you get your idea for a story?
I don't really remember much... Most of these story where 'imagined' separately and then I found a way to mix them up together, giving what you're reading now. I've been a fan of BSB since February 1996 and the story started then. So it's been a while. I remember I got the inspiration for "Labyrinth Of Fears" from a movie, but the original storyline I had planned is so different from the one I finally wrote that the resemblance to the movie has completely disappeared. "I Wouldn't Hurt A Fly" was inspired by a movie too. "Titanica"... well, that's not hard. "The Roof" was inspired by a dream. Apart from those four, either I don't remember or maybe it's because there wasn't a specific event or anything behind it. When I started to write this story I wanted to cover a lot of subjects, and not only romance.

What kind of subjects is there going to be in the story?
Some are gonna be more controversial than other. For instance if you were offended by "Can't Trust Anybody," you'll freak out if you read some others. But don't worry, I'll post warnings so if you don't want to read about a certain subject, you'll know where it is. Ok, the subjects...

  • Rape
  • Disease
  • Incest
  • War
  • AIDS
  • Violence
  • Homosexuality
  • Abortion
  • Death
  • Sex Have you written other stories beside the "Backstreet Secrets" saga?
No. This is my first attempt at fanfic. I love it though, so when I finish Backstreet Secrets (might take a while...), I have many ideas for other stories, mostly sci-fi though. But now I put all my time into Backstreet Secrets. I know if I start to write another story I won't finish Backstreet Secrets and I want to finish it.

    What's your name?
That's for me to know and you to find out.

    Awww. You're not nice.
    That's not a question.

Sorry. So, who's your fave BSB anyways?
I like Nick and Brian best. I don't have anything against any of the other Boys but it's easier for me to write about Frick and Frack, so the stories will mostly be about them.

    You won't include the others?
Of course I will. But the most important things will happen with Nick and Brian.

    That's favoritism.
Yeah, so? Almost every other fanfic author does it. By the way, that wasn't a question.

    I have to go now.
    That's still isn't a question.

I know, but I really have to leave you.
    Ok, fine.

    Thank you!
    See ya!
