Náw-Rúz Handprints & Pledge

A "Raising Spiritual Children Project" Project

Have your child compose their own New Year's pledge (resolution) then decorate with handprints.

Supplies: 8-1/2" x 11" white paper (typing paper); 9" x 12" or larger construction paper; colored marking pens; one color of tempra or other water-based paints; paper plate; paper towels.

* Step 1: With your child, discuss what they want to accompish this Bahá'í year. Do they want to memorize a special prayer or quote, perform a service project, host a fireside for their friends? Depending on the age of the child, either have them dictate their pledge to you (and you can type or write it in the center of the white paper), or have them carefully write their pledge themselves.

* Step 2: Pour a small amount of paint into a paper plate. Have your child carefully place their flat palm into the paint and then practice making handprints on some paper towels. You may need to assist them in finally placing their handprints on either side of their pledge.

* Step 3: After the paint has dried, mount the pledge onto the sheet of construction paper.
