Sticker Pins

A "Raising Spiritual Children Project" Project

"Change and transformation are peculiarities of composition. There is no change and transformation in the spirit." --'Abdu'l-Bahá (Promulgation of Universal Peace, page 243)

* Reduce-Reuse-Recycle

By now we should all be familiar with the term, "Reduce-Reuse-Recycle." The following project is for children of all ages and is the first in what I hope will be a series of ideas focusing on the transformation of items that might normally be discarded, aka "trash".

pinback button

* Supplies:
old or outdated pin-backed items (such as promotional pins, advertising pins or political buttons); decorative stickers; small personal photos; small beads or plastic jewels; decorative papers; Glue, scissors, opaque pens in gold or silver (optional); fabric scraps.

* Instructions:

Basically the idea here is to take an old pin and cover any writing or identifyable image with stickers and other items to create a new piece of wearable art.

"The apparent annihilation is this: that the form, the outward image, goes through all these changes and transformations. Let us again take the example of this flower. The flower is indestructible. The only thing that we can see, this outer form, is indeed destroyed, but the elements, the indivisible elements which have gone into the composition of this flower are eternal and changeless. Therefore the realities of all phenomena are immutable. Extinction or mortality is nothing but the transformation of pictures and images, so to speak - the reality back of these images is eternal. And every reality of the realities is one of the bounties of God." --'Abdu'l-Bahá, (Foundations of World Unity, page 52)
