Part one in the Chronicles of Baeladia, I haven't finished typing this one, but enjoy.
"Baeladia was not a majic land. It had no majic, not even an ounce, until the Dragon came. Yes, that refers to the species. Anyway, when the Dragon came, it messed up the whole system. The mortals, as we now call them, meaning those with no majic, were exposed to it, and the dragons, well, they were exposed to non-majic. I think the term now smiled upon is reality by the mortals, or magic to us. And, of course, this caused unusual side affects. Some of the people learned to use the majic of the land, and were thus holding the power over those who did not. Well, anyway certain members of their ilk learned it better than others, and those were split fifty-fifty between either being good or evil." The teenager explained to the adolescents.
"Is that how it is now?" Sharin asked while she paused.
"No. Now let me finish." she said perplexed at their endless supply of questions. "Then, along came other magical creatures, from who-knows-where, and the land became more diverse."
"When do I come in?" Dniw asked.
"You don't until we get past this story." she said simply. 3But one day, along came an extremely powerful man. Not physically, majically. His name was Medievo, and of course he wasn1t born with power, he worked at it, as you do. Anyway, he came, and he got into a disagreement with the majority of the evil side... No, I do not know why, but he did, and so he turned to good. Yes, he was part evil at first, and no he didn1t stay that way. Anyway, Medievo came to the good powers of the time, now called good prowess, and he united them, and he became their leader. The good prowess, lead by Lord Medievo, as we must now call him, turned on the bad or evil - no, not all bad is evil, and not all evil is bad - well, the ones that Medievo was disagreeing with, anyway, and they destroyed them. But, Lord Medievo was a smart man, and so he gathered all the remaining powers together, and asked them to side with him."
"What was his side?" Flue asked.
"Neutral. You really would find it more interesting to listen and ask questions later. No? Oh, well, it was worth a shot. So, all the powers became neutral with him, and it was good. And that was how it stayed until Lord Medievo died, yes, he had a family. I'm getting there, no I will not tell you how." She paused frustrated.
"How long did it last?" Phoebus asked.
"Well, until his daughter, Medeva, was older than I am, no I won't tell you my age, but Medeva was older than 20. Anyway, the powers-that-were got bored, and turned to her, in lieu of Medievo." She paused, expecting questions.
"Just listen for once." Compelline said.
"Thank you. Now, Medeva was stuck. She had to keep the powers neutral, or there would be war and all the other bad things that happened before her father1s time. So, to satisfy them, and keep her own power, she explained it as thus : 'In neutral, there is the possibility for good or evil, whatever moves you, but this does not allow for grudges to be held or sides to be permanent, everyone does some of each thing. And thus, it came to be that..."
"It reverted to good vs. evil!" several of them screamed at once.
"NO. You see, before he died, Medievo did one more truly consequential thing, he, no not having Medeva, you will understand how later. He established the family settings. for the last time, I will not explain that to you any time soon. Enough! Lesson over, I no longer feel any need to educate you. Leave me." she said rising and returning to her house.
"Good job, Sharin, way to push Luna over the edge." Phoebus steamed.
"ME? Compelline stopped convincing us all to stop asking questions!"
Each child had majic, and most of them tried to relate it to their names. Their parents were the heads of the powers, except for those that were teens, and all of them had arranged for the Lunar Power to teach the children what they needed to know, but she had limits.
Moonlight stalked out of the open air cottage, and changed to girl form, eyes and hair wild. "You guys really did it this time." she said. "She won1t stop looking at one of her books, what did you do?" she asked. They all looked at their feet, guiltily. "I should've known." she said forming back to her natural state, and stalking deliberately into the forest with her tail up high.
Dniw, one of the elder adolescents, nearing 10, stepped up now. "All we have to do is wait, she1ll come back, then we can find out what she wants, and she1ll teach us again, for sure." Dniw was a baby power of wind, to be the head of her family, one day, if Air ever stepped down.
"We1ll meet back here tonight, she'll be at her full happiness then, then we1ll ask." Phoebus said. He was 12, by far the oldest and wisest of the adolescent group.
That night, the twelve of them returned, and found her sitting out in the moonlight brushing her dark tresses. Dniw nodded to the other older kids, and they approached Luna, Dniw leading after Phoebus. "We're sorry Luna, We really liked that story. Please, finish." they all said together.
She was prepared to send them all home, but then she saw the tears welling up in the younger ones' eyes, and said, "My little Pows, what will I ever do with you?"
Then Phoebus and Dniw, along with the other older kids saw her tears, and Phoebus asked, "What's wrong?"
"Nothing." she said aloud, and then mumbled," I just get lonely." Only Phoebus heard the last remark.
Of course, she didn1t need to be lonely, she was lovely, and only a teenager, but she was an eternal, as all the head Powers are, and could be any age, because it was just a pretext. Phoebus was head over heels in love with her, but he was only 12.
"We could use a meal while we learn couldn't we? I have milk, and cheese, but bread.."
Someone had bread, Dniw looked at Chance, who smiled smugly, he was the cause of it. They all perched around her, as usual, and she began her tale again, she had seen it all, because the moons had been there to witness it all, even if they had had no voice before.
"What was that last statement. Oh, no it did not revert to good vs. evil. Why? Because were generally on the positive side of their neutral with one another."
"Will you explain the families some more?" Chance asked. He was 11, and he wouldn1t be in class much longer, he was just a year and a day younger than Phoebus, and at 13 they would be in the teen calss.
"I will, try, but I may not remember them all. Let1s see, there are the elements- earth, fire, wind, water, majic. Oh, majic, and some of the sky family, are the only families headed by a male, ever anymore, so I'm sorry you boys, but... Anyway, then we have the LIFE. She is really nice, but you all may never meet her, in her family, there is a set of sub families, as in the others, human, Animal, Plant, Mineral. "
"How do the families stay so civil to one another?" Phoebus asked.
"Well, the mortals, and don't groan like that, the mortals will eventually develop into a system of nobles, and that is what Medievo thought of so long ago to keep the powers civil towards one another. It's a hierarchy. The highest family is Power, then Majic, and I couldn't bein to explain all the nuansces of the positive side, and I can NOT explain the bad side at all. But the powers are in classes, the heads are the leaders, the newt strongest follow underneath them, and the least powerful follow the rules, and together, the families handle all the problems of Baeladia. Any changes in anything on the planet that must happen are handled by a council of head powers meeting and a family meeting of whatever needs to be changed."
There it is, Luna is the teacher of the future POWERS of Baeladia, hmm, reminds me of a public school teacher! Questions, comment, spoiled chickens for sale? Mail it all to me.
