My granddaughter is "crazy" about mermaids.  With that in mind I designed this amulet type purse.  The black line indicates the separation between the purse itself and the fringe.  The back has a seahorse image.  I have not yet completed this project but, so far, it's holding quite true to the pattern.
Here's the back of the mermaid purse.  I think it could stand on its own.  Note the "shadow" of the inverted mermaid's tail.  I planned on two layers of fringe in some areas to incorporate both designs.
Modest Mermaid

Since my granddaughter is only six, and most of the beadwork I make for her must be strong enough to withstand being taken to school, I opted for a simpler pattern.  While graphing I noticed that the mermaid would translate well into earrings if I used a brick stitch.  The purse is designed in peyote.
