Tonight I knelt and said a prayer
To God way up above.
I asked of him to send to you
The warmth of my hearts love.
I asked of him to hold you close
And whisper in your ear
The knowledge of my love for you
And let you know my thoughts are near
I asked of him to send to you
The comfort of my embrace
I asked of him to remove from you
Nightmares every trace.
I asked of him to lay his hand
Upon your cheek tonight
I asked of Him to stay with you
Til the dawning of first mornings light
I asked if he would send my love
To guard you through the day
Your love to her, I do send
I thought I heard him say.
