Lady Death is second oldest of the Endless, second only to her brother Destiny. Of all the Endless, she is the closest to her brother, Dream. She is how an older sister should be towards a younger sibling. Indulgent when the sibling is good and scolding when the sibling is bad. She is the only one who would dare go off on Dream when he deserves it. She is also an upbeat and cheerful girl, always abreast of the latest fashions. She appears to be a pretty pale girl of about sixteen with black hair and gray eyes. She's normally smiling and friendly to those she meets. She never meets a stranger, only a potential friend. She is charged with taking the souls of the dead to the Sunless Lands. She is the only member of the Endless who can travel to her sibling's realms without feeling discomfort. Once every hundred years Death must walk for one day as a human, to fully understand the reprocusions of the lives she must take. It is Death who winds up taking Dream in The Kindly Ones and the only time you will ever see her wear a color other than black is at his funeral in The Wake when she wears red. She is the most comforting of the Endless. The one who provides the most stability to the mortal world.
