Lady Despair is the only member of the Endless, in the series, to have died and come back in a different form. Her realm is one of gray mist and mirrors. Through the mirrors, Despair watches the world, those who have slipped in to a despairing frame of mind. She is pictured as a small overweight woman who wears no clothes. She has a small hook with which she often cuts herself. Despair is the twin of Desire and technically the next to the youngest, the youngest being Delirium. Despair, of all the Endless, is the most troubled and unhappy by her brother Destruction's disappearance. Despair is actually a very sympathetic person when it comes to her brother. She is often dragged along on Desire's schemes. Despair doesn't appear to have any animosity towards her older brother Dream except when under the influence of Desire. Despair watches you from behind your mirrors. Every time you've stared at yourself and thought you were ugly, or needed to lose weight, or that no one cared at all, you have felt the touch of Despair as she watches passively just a short ways away.
"He realizes that his life is over. He wants to end his life, but he doesn't have the strength to go through with it. Isn't it beautiful?"
