Of all the contemporary musicians I've come across, Tori Amos' style is the most distinctive and unique. Rarely am I capable of reading the lyrics to her songs and guessing accurately the music that would accompany it. Her songs are angry and full of raw emotion. She pounds out the notes on her piano with a fury of life unbeknownst to many. Her songs tend to sounds almost classical in their composure, but rarely do they stay in that style. You don't often know what the next string of notes will sound like. My favorite album of Tori Amos' is her second album, Little Earthquakes. The songs in that album go from angry to wistful to reminicent to vertiginous. She is the Goddess of the Piano who speaks to us all of our pasts and our pain through her own experiences. There has yet to be a song I haven't been able to identify with in some way or another. Goddess bless this woman who's heart we share. (It kinda bugs me that recently she's become very popular in the mainstream when people like me have been singing her praises for years. I know it sounds silly, but what can you do? A select few friends and I loved her for years and all of a sudden everyone's a fan. It's about time. But it's a pain to have people approach you saying "Hey, have you heard of this singer named Tori Amos?")
