"Mrs. Toriago you're under arrest. You have the right to remain silent, anything you say or do can be used against you in a court of law." Tears ran down Christina and Monica's faces as they watched their mother step into the police car. The whole Hanson family stood by them and tried to comfort them but it was no use. First their father, then Christina's sight and now their mother. It couldn't get much worse. An officer came up and touched her shoulder.
"Miss, I'm really sorry, but you and your sister are going to have to come with me." Christina nodded and let Monica lead her to the car. Taylor looked up at his mother and she nodded reassuringly.
"Officer, that won't be necessary, we will escort them to the police station if that is ok with you." The officer smiled and let the Hansons lead the heartbroken girls into the limo. The ride was fairly quiet except for the occasional sob here and there. But other than that, nobody said a word. When they arrived at the police station Christina and Monica came out of the limo with tearstained faces and arm in arm. The Hanson family were right Mrs. Hanson with baby Zoë in her arms. They walked in silence and entered. An officer came up to them and smiled sympathetically.
"You would happen to be the Toriago girls would you," he asked in Spanish. Monica nodded and followed the officer into a little office.
"Now," he said "I understand that your father is diceased...do you have any other relatives?" Monica nodded.
"We have an aunt, my mother's sister who lives in Oklahoma." The officer raised an eyebrow.
"Really. What part of Oklahoma?" Monica thought for a moment but Christina answered before she did.
"Jenks." The officer smiled and picked up the phone.
"And what would her name be?" Christina was silent for a minute then responded.
"Eloisa, yes, Eloisa Spencer." The officer smiled again and dialed a phone number.
"Yes, operator, I need you to get me a Mrs. Eloisa Spencer in Jenks, Oklahoma please. Thank you." The officer put the reciever down and looked at Monica and Christina.
"You do understand that if she refuses to take you, you will have to find somewhere else to live. Do you have any other relatives?" Monica shook her head.
"All four of our Grandparents are dead, and our father was an only child. My mother's only sister is Aunt Eloisa." Just then the phone rang. The officer quickly picked it up.
"Hello, is this a Mrs. Eloisa Spencer?...Yes. I am afraid I have some bad news for you. Your sister has been put in jail for beating her daughters and drinking. Since their father is dead and they have no other relatives, you are the only person I could call....yes, yes I understand. No...ok...Saturday morning...Allright, bye." The officer put the reciever down and glanced at the girls.
"Your Aunt has agreed to take you. You leave next Friday at night and will arrive in Tulsa on Saturday morning. Your Aunt will then drive you to Jenks. We will take care of your plane tickets, and the moving. Good luck ladies." Monica and Christina stood up and Monica took Christina's arm. They walked out to tell the Hanson's the news.
