Monica sat quietly as they approached the "Arturo Merino Benitez" International Airport. Monica had insisted that they play a Chilean radio station in her last half hour in chile. The radio was playing "Si vas Para Chile" and listening to the first verses, Monica could hold it no longer and began to cry. She had lived in Chile all her life and loved it there. It was a bit akward after the death of her father, who was Chilean, but she loved the country more than anything in the world. She knew Christina always blamed herself for her fathers death, and said that she resented the country entirely after his death. Monica understood and respected Christina's feelings, but she felt the exact opposite. Every time she saw the Chilean flag wave in the wind her heart bursted in pride. She was up to date with every soccer game they played and was a huge fan of the team 'Universidad Catolica' and was thrilled when Chile beat Bolivia and was off to the World Cup. Leaving her country was so painful she didn't know how she would cope with living anywhere else. Sure, visiting the United States was wonderful, and she always enjoyed herself. However she couldn't imagine living there.
They arrived at the terminal and Monica quickly dried her tears so no one could see she was crying. Isaac came over to open the door, and said in a funny english accent.
"Madame, we have arrived at our destination, the Arturo Merino Benitez Airport. Would you like a coctail?" Monica giggled and punched Isaac playfully in the arm. Isaac pretended that it hurt tremendously causing Monica to burst into a fit of giggles. She always had a fondness over Isaac in particular. He talked to her alot after her mother was taken to jail and was very supportive. She had a little crush on him to be exact, but she wasn't going to let that get in the way of her friendship. She walked over to get Christina from the other side of the limo when she saw that Taylor had already beat her to the chase. She had noticed that Taylor was very fond of Christina. They looked very cute together, and it was a shame that Christina couldn't see Taylor and find out how incredibly handsome he was. The Hanson's had played at the Estacion Mapocho the night before and gave an incredible concert for the wild Chilean fans. Monica was responsible for teaching the boys how to say words that would drive the fans crazy. It turned out that the flight that Monica and Christina were taking was the same plane the Hansons were taking back to Tulsa. They would arrive at the Tulsa airport together and then the Hanson family would drop Christina and Monica off at their Aunt's house. Monica looked around at the crowded airport. She secretely hoped that it was an empty flight so she could go up to first class and sit with Isaac. Unfortunately, the agency couldn't put them in first class, so they were flying coach, but Monica didn't really mind. They sat and ate some dinner knowing the plane food would be disgusting and walked over to the gate entrance. As soon as they arrived, Monica lost it and burst into tears.
"Monica! Monica! Are you okay?" Isaac said with concern in his voice.
"Oh Ike! I can't do this! I can't leave this country. It hurts too much." Isaac put a comforting arm around Monica and she responded by putting her head on his chest and wrapping an arm around his waist.
"Ike, how can I leave this place. I'm bound to it!" Isaac lifted her chin so she could see his face.
"Monica, look, I understand how you feel. I've had to travel around the world. Leaving my beloved Tulsa behind. I feel homesick all the time. But you'll love it in Jenks. Besides, It's really near Tulsa, and I'll come visit you often. I promise that I'll visit every time I'm in Tulsa. You have my word. I'll call you to see how you are and I'll think of you always. Just promise me you won't be sad."
"Isaac, You promise me so much. And it helps to know I have such a caring friend. It helps so much. Really it does, but I can't make you promise something like that, when you have so much going for you. Isaac, I'm bound to my country as you are bound to your music. And imagine the pain of leaving your music." Isaac sighed deeply and hugged Monica tight.
"Monica, my darling Monica. I must say that it will be very hard for you to cope with the loss of your country, but know that you will always have a friend. Wait here, I'll be right back." With that, Isaac let her go and ran quickly over to the shops. He came back minutes later with a bag full of little Chilean trinkets. Lapislazuli, copper figures and a little copper plate with a figure of a couple dancing the 'Cueca' the Chilean dance. Best of all, he brought her a necklace, a little lapislazuli butterfly hanging on a very delicate silver chain.
"Monica, with this necklace, your heart will fly back to Chile whenever it wants." Monica hugged Isaac with all her might and gave him a little peck on the cheek. Isaac blushed but smiled sweetly. Monica giggled.
"Oh Isaac, you're the best friend I could ever have. Thank you so much." He gave her a quick hug and followed the Hanson family to the gate.
