"Dad!" Melanie whined.
"Daddy, I don't know if you realize this, but Madame Butterfly and Mmmbop don't really mix. Please turn it down!"
Her father smiled mischeviously and turned the volume up. "Sorry hun, but us adults get preference." Melanie scowled and looked over at her brother who seemed quite amused.
"Oh take that goofy look of your face dork! You wanna be miserable?" With that Melanie pulled her earphones out of her ears and turned the volume up to MAX. Taylors voice echoed out as he wailed 'Mmmbop ba du ba dop ba du ba dop, ba du ba dop ba du ba dop ba du ba dop ba du, Yeah Yeah'
"No!!" Brian screamed, "Spare me!!! I'm sorry, really I am. I will never mock you again. Noooooo!!" Melanie raised an eyebrow at her brother and snickered. What a loser she thought. Melanie was 14 and would be fifteen in April. According to her, she was cursed by a younger brother. Brian was twelve and the most annoying kid in Melanie's opinion. Everyone else who met him thought he was an enchanting little dear, but they didn't have to put up with him twenty four hours seven days a week. Melanie was born and raised in Kansas, Oklahoma and loved it there. She was had just graduated from junior high and was on her way to Kansas High. (a.n.: I dunno if that's a real school in Kansas. Heck, I'm no even American, I'm Chilean for crying out loud!) She had just broken up with her boyfriend Mark after a year and a half of going out with him. It was a nice break up. It was what they both wanted. Melanie wanted to see other people and so did Mark. So it was decided that they would remain friends. So much for that. He never called her again and she called him twice when he wasn't home and he never returned her calls. She smiled as she remembered how on the day of their one year anniversary he arrived at her door carrying a boquet of roses and a huge jar (about three feet tall) filled with M&M's. On this trip hopefully she would meet some new guys and maybe it would help her forget Mark.
"Melanie, turn that down this instant!," her mother yelled. Melanie slipped out of her daydream mood and obeyed her mother by turning the volume down and putting her earphones in. She was in the middle of "A Minute Without You" which happened to be her favorite song when she dozed off into a peaceful sleep.
