I am always hearing gripes from my fellow women, and I am guilty too. It is a world full of paradoxes with things like, "I want him to be gentle but ravage me like a beast." "I want him to talk about his feelings but if he could only be that strong silent type." "Did you see the way that guy was looking at me? The creep," but just as often, "Guys never look at me like that, they must think I'm unattractive." How can the Women's Movement achieve anything when more oft than not all women are moved to do is argue inwardly and outwardly about what they want? I've heard, "I want respect," and, "tee hee tee hee you are sooo funny, Mr. Man," from the same woman. And I hear men complain all the time that women are confusing. And so I suppose it is true. But people are just confusing in general. Hmpf. Do we know what we want? I will tell you what I want. I want to be treated like I have a brain and like I have feelings by men and women alike. Because I do have both those things. I am not now nor have I ever been a purely aesthetic object to be evaluated in passing and accepted or rejected based on that judgement alone (i.e. "yeah, she's pretty cute" or "no, i wouldn't ball her for a million bucks"). I do not like it when: A. a guy is only talking to me in hopes I will allow him to F#$@ my brains out. Nor do I like it when: B. a guy who is only talking to me in hopes I will allow him to F#$@ my brains out pretends like it is something other than that. I am sure there are men who are "feminists" because they beilieve they will have an up on "nonfeminist" guys when it comes to "getting laid." But in all fairness, I know that men & women both have social pressures and certain roles they inherit and manifest and GOD who ever let it come between us to the point where we hurt eachother? With all the agism, racism, sexism, ism, ism, ism, in modern society. . . . . .why do I hear about the biggest mission of feminist circles to be changing the proportions of the Barbie doll? A woman who bases her self-esteem on the measurements of a twelve inch plastic thing is no kind of woman. Do you (the women who have a problem with Barbie) think that He-Man, Muscle Men, or Transformers have dick to do with accurate measurements of a man? What the hell? Barbie is not the problem. I played with Barbies my whole life. I am a 5'1, 130 pound, braless nineteen year old with acne & armpit hair, and loving it. I could not honestly give one heck of a crap whether Barbie has a small waist or the Twiggy look of super models these days except that I am perplexed by what some people characterize as attractive. Blow it out your hole America for making everything so screwed up when it does not need to be. Why are your daughters starving themselves in this land of plenty? Where did the expression, "it's a man's world" come from? And why does anyone still believe it? I even hear some women say, "well, it's a man's world." If it 's a man's world what are you doing here, honey? Written by Moe Janis O'Connell
