Fire Walk

Over a path of hot coals before us,
I feel the warmth.

Perception ripples red and orange
over glowing ember demon eyes.

A gentle voice soothes the flame
as I bless the fear and honor the pain.

I am calm.

I close my eyes and take
the first step,
like a child learning to walk.

I walk the plank...

I fire walk.

Over seething heat
turning on the back
of rejection...

I fire walk.

Shame sizzles, sap bleeds from
ancient family trees like split blisters.

I fire walk.

There's an arsonist shouting, "Fire!"
and a wound.

I fire walk.

With strength and acceptance
I embrace this inflamed weakness
like a parent
embraces a child.

I fire walk the past...

And looking through the window
I see that the world is on fire,
burning.

Through the smoke, coming into view
are all the faces of me and you.

Together, through a world on fire,

   ...we fire walk.
