Slow Down

Reaching back again for the past.
Still trying and trying to make it last.
The quest for fire puts out the flame.
The thirst for water holds back the rain.

Thoughts are a mounting army in my mind
attacking swiftly with the weapon of time.
I can't remember the last time I felt free.
There's a shadow in the mirror and I think it's me.

Slow down.
Just hold me.
Slow down.
Get to know me.
Slow down.
There's nothing to say.
Just slow down.
All the way.

Don't got the key and it's way too late.
The wires are set and the fuse is lit.
My heart is pounding hard trying to get out.
And there's a clock staring back at me.

Running like a mouse on a viscous wheel.
There's a poor man trying and trying to make a deal.
There's a snake choking on its' tail.
And there's a brilliant sun turning pale.

Grasping and clinging with empty hands.
Oh what I'd give just to understand.
So many doorways in this corridor.
Got to find the meaning that I came here for.

Slow down.
Just hold me.
Slow down.
And get to know me.
Slow down.
There's nothing to say.
Just slow down.
All the way.                                                                                     © 1997 By David Bozzi
