Alone

    Alone in a blackened sea--
    Surrounded only
    By bitter coldness
    And terrorizing darkness,
    Forever in the grasp
    Of loneliness.

      Au Revoir: A Sonnet

    Why must we say goodbye, my friend?
    Why must you go afar, why must you leave?
    Why must we part, why must our friendship end?
    What evil carries you away from me?
    Please tell me how to live without your care,
    For I cannot survive with you not here;
    And when you go, my soul, uncovered, bare,
    Will clench with grief and hold within my fear.
    The time goes by too quickly, and the day
    For you to leave draws near, so very close;
    And yet as each day dies, I think you'll stay,
    I think you'll find a way, and that thought grows--
    I've tried to hide the tears, but still you saw,
    And I can't say goodbye, so au revoir.
