To the Linux community,it is their corporate or appropriately their idealogical symbol, the emblem of free softwares or operating system. The OS was developed by thousands of programmers worldwide. It belongs to the public and hence it belongs  to everyone!

More than a year ago, I was re-introduced to project management(PM) by my respected mentor. He made me do a rethinking on the subject I love.Since then,I started digging for more information on PM. I even went to APM HQ in England and immediately joined  the Association For Project Management. When I got back home,I started talking to my peers who shared my interest sand started a digital community called XPROJECT using egroup mailinglist.( Now,egroup was taken over by Yahoo! and renamed yahoogroups.) A few of my mailinglist subscribers asked why the X in front of 'project'. My reply is simply to include  the element of mystery! By definition, every project is different; therefore the element of unknown is intrinsic in every project.X is usually unknown variable in a mathematical equation. To be honest, even experienced project managers have no ideas on certain parts of the Body of Knowledge.

Free talk is not going to give you any money, advised a fellow entrepreneur. You can't go on giving free talk. There is no such thing as free lunch.I concur ; every word he said is true.

The speakers who give free talks are not looking for money. They are being paid by the satisfaction they got on giving their talk. They are happy to share their knowledge and experience. To some speakers, they are looking for an audience. They speak not because they want to say something, but they have got something to say.

Yes, I can't go on giving free talk. But,it is not me only. There are quite a number of my peers who share my vision;they will continue giving free talks. The juniors who benefit from our free talks will continue our mission-to spread the knowledge of PM for the benefits of mankind!

Hey,there must be a catch some where! I still don't believe in anything that is free.So said my friend again. I almost said that he sounded like some guys from Microsoft. The business model is similar to Penguin up there. The knowledge is free, but the execution part of that knowledge is not. Even project managers need some teh tarik to quench their thirst.

I am not convinced yet. You need money to rent a hall to hold the free talks. On top of it,who is going to pay for the drinks and some cakes? To answer your question my dear friend: I get sponsors who are ever willing to pay for the hall and the drinks. The sponsor benefitted a lot by organising the talks because they could send their staff to attend the lectures.

This is my last question: How are you going to spread this concept of sharing PM knowledge? What is your advertisemnent budget? Well, this is my last answer: I used ideavirus. It spread through the mouths ( the human version) and mouses( the computer version). My only job is to inflict the big sneazers. So far, the model works fine. Our next Free Talks on Project Management will be at MIMOS.Previously ,it was held at 83th  floor Menara Petronas, sponsored by KLCC.

Okay, when is it going to be? We plan to do on  Saturday 30/06/2001.I hope to see you there.

It seems that these days
not many people believe
in getting or giving any-
thing for free.Everything
appears to have dollar
signs attached to it.........
