Victoire!!! France won the World Cup.It is a 100 years old dream...
3-0 is almost impossible,and
yet that was the result of 64th game for the past 33 days of the World
Cup event in Paris. Sometimes, reality
is like a dream. But dreams also can become a reality. So,don't be afraid
to dream, but be careful what you dream.Martin Luther King got himself killed
because he said,"I have a dream..." in USA,but not in Malaysia. So dream
on...
Everyone loves to play games;the only difference is we play and enjoy different games. The games we play also change with our age and time.Gone were the games we used to play as kids. Some games are quite safe and some are quite dangerous. The choice is individual. One thing is common to all-everyone enjoys his/her game.Otherwise,it is *not* a game at all!
Last weekend I brought my family members to KSN(Kompleks Sukan Negara) at Bukit Jalil.Standing between the stadium and the LRT station,I was amazed at the beauty and the size of the complex. It reminds me of similar location between Disneyland Paris and Marna de Vallee-Cheesy metro station during my visit last year.It is a beautiful sight!Just bring yourself and your family there(Bukit Jalil)-you won't regret it.
The KSN at Bukit Jalil cost more than RM 800million(?).It is a hell lot of money. It would be a disgrace and great waste if we Malaysians do not utilize this complex after the Commonwealth Games in two months time.As a tax payer(as most of us are paying taxes) and a KL resident,I promise to take my family members to use the sport facilities there at least once a month.Otherwise, like most government facilities where a lot of public fund were spent, they are mostly under utilized by members of the public.Just look around your house and office. Most of us even failed to use the padang (playing field) in our neighbourhood-;(
Actually, public facilities are every where near our house. All we need is just open our eyes wider and ask around. They are located at schools, mosques and civic halls. It is not necessary for us to join exclusive clubs to enjoy sports and hold social activities. Not unless you have money to burn.
However there is one aspect that needs immediate and serious attention of those in authority. Most of these public facilities are badly managed and maintained,if at all. When it belongs to government,it belongs to everybody. When it belongs to everybody,it belongs to no body.So finally,no body cares and most facilities deteriorate with time. One glaring example is the recreational padang near my house where at least RM 100,000 was spent. It only lasts for six months, followed by no maintenance by DBKL and then destroyed by vandalism. Now,it is in a big mess that I dare not go there anymore. Any similar sad stories near your home? Just imagine if this similar episode were to happen to KSN?God forbids.
So far I have heard more negative stories about sport management in our country. It is sad to note that it took our PM to remind those involved in Commonwealth Games not to quarrel among themselves during the opening ceremony of KSN on 11th July,1998.Let's settle our differences and get on the job.If we fail,we may not get another chance in our life time.
Sport is not only a leisure activity. It is a serious business. Properly managed,we can turn it into an economic activity like what have been achieved by other developed world.According to David McCormack, who wrote a book"What they don't teach you at Harvard Business School",sports is big business. He made millions by managing sport celebrities alone.Any budding entrepreneurs want to try this 'game'?
By the way, what game do you play?Irrespective of our age,we like to play games. It is the child in everyone of us.So,play on as long as you enjoy it.I think it is one activity that will enrich your life other than making money;-)
