Once fresh clean deep air shared
with friends
Gradually became infested with the bittersweet stench
Of tobacco and alcohol.

Conversation limited to the importance of Barbie
and pop culture crushes
Evolved into topics of wisdom, death, sex, school
And occassional sob stories.

Petty teenage soap opera problems
Happen more than they should
But less than they did
As we continues to grow slowly into maturity.

Every breath isn't
Happy and sweet anymore
But poisened air is now
Familiar and becoming beautiful.
