Join The Music

"There are those who mainly listen because they think they cannot sing, but there's those who join the music, they become free."

I was just sitting on my bed, listening to the radio when this song by Satellite Soul came on. The lyrics were not new to me, but it seemed the message just jumped out at me this time.

How many times do you find yourself sitting in a church service when the Spirit is really moving, and you're content to just watch but not participate? Sure, just observing some things like that is an experience in itself. But those who really take part in it are the ones who are truly set free.

I'm an observer alot of times in things, I'll admit. And yes, just observing situations or experiences can sometimes make you feel a part of them. But think about it. If you feel good just watching, can you imagine how great it must be when not just watching but really taking part in it?

This song says that these people don't join the music because "they think they cannot sing". Have you ever felt that way...like you just can't be part of something because you don't do it well enough? Maybe you don't feel good enough to praise God. Or maybe you feel you can't use your talents for God because you don't recognize them as talents. Do you ever feel unworthy to participate in something? I know the feeling all too well!

But I think this song makes a good point. Whether you think you can "sing" or not, it's the ones that join the "music" that are truly set free. If you hold back from praising God...serving God...joining in on whatever it is that you just know you should be part of, the blessing won't be full. You may get a good or a part-way blessing or freedom or whatever, but it won't be the same. It's the ones who join in no matter what the circumstance...no matter how they feel...no matter what others think of them...that are truly set free.
